TNI Commander Guards Legal Process For Members Of Paspampres Persecuting Acehnese To Be Sentenced To Death Or Life

TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono said TNI soldiers involved in the kidnapping and mistreatment of a resident from Aceh to death would be severely punished, namely the maximum death penalty and at least life imprisonment.

"The persecution by members of the Paspampres (Presidential Security Forces) which resulted in the victim's death, the TNI Commander is concerned and will oversee this case so that the perpetrator is severely punished, the maximum death penalty, a minimum life sentence," said the Head of the Indonesian Armed Forces Information Center (Kapuspen) Rear Admiral Julius Widjojono as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 28.

Julius said that if the perpetrators were found guilty, they would definitely be fired from the TNI.

"They must have been fired from the TNI because ( Their actions) included serious crimes, planning murder," said Julius.

Three TNI soldiers, all of whom were Army soldiers, were suspected of kidnapping and molesting a young man from Aceh, Imam Masykur (25) to death. The victim is a cosmetic shop keeper in the Rempoa area, South Tangerang, Banten. He is believed to have been kidnapped by the perpetrators Saturday around the shop. The perpetrators had confessed to the victim.

The victim before he died had contacted his family and asked for Rp50 million. The victim's voice recordings contacted his family and video footage showing the victim being tortured by the perpetrator went viral on social media.

The victim's family had reported the kidnapping and torture of Imam to the Polda Metro Jaya. The report was received by the police with the Number STTLP/B/4776/VIII/2023/SPKT.

The three soldiers suspected of being involved in the case are now being detained by the Military Police of the Jaya Military Command (Pomdam). One of the perpetrators with the initials Praka RM is a member of the Presidential Security Forces (Paspampres).

Meanwhile, two other perpetrators are suspected to be Praka O, a member of the Iskandar Muda Regional Military Command, and one other soldier is a member of the Topographic Directorate of the Indonesian Army.
