Defense Minister Prabowo And US Defense Minister Agree To Strengthen Relations Amid Various Strategic Issues
JAKARTA - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto met with United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd James Austin III to jointly reaffirm the strength of the Strategic Partnership defense pillar, at the Pentagon building, United States.
During the meeting, Indonesia and the United States decided together to preserve international law and norms, increase security and defense capabilities, and remain guided by the principles of shared democracy.
Defense Minister Prabowo and US Defense Secretary Austin also discussed the commitment of the United States and Indonesia, as the two largest democracies in the world, to the rule of law and the professionalization of the two armed forces. This year, Indonesian cadets from the Indonesian Army, Air Force, and Navy have continued their studies in America
Minister Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the education of more than 7,000 Indonesian military and civilian personnel in the United States, as well as the training and education funds that have been provided to Indonesian students by the United States since 1970.
"We have the same determination to further strengthen our relationship, ensure that these relations are strong and able to take advantage of future opportunities and overcome the challenges that arise in the increasingly complex geopolitical climate," Austin said in a written statement, Friday, August 25.
In addition, Defense Minister Prabowo and US Defense Secretary Austin also agreed that the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and the United States Indo-Pacific Strategy share the same basic principles, such as a commitment to maintaining peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the region through the ASEAN Sentrality, and working with partners who have the same goals, and are committed to an open, inclusive, and rule-based order.
