Dozens Of Bodies Scattered Not Buried In Sudan Rotting, Triggering Health Disasters

JAKARTA - Dozens of bodies, both soldiers and civilians, were on the streets of Sudan, especially in conflict areas such as Khartoum, Bahari, and Omdurman, causing fear of a public health disaster.

Several eyewitnesses told Anadolu as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 16, the bodies of civilians and soldiers were not buried in Khartoum due to the ongoing war between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Another reason is because the scattered bodies were also close to the bombing locations.

The disappearance of the bodies began because the bodies were in open spaces for days and residents could not carry out proper funerals.

This situation increases the danger of spreading the disease in the northern African country, which has been hit by war between two troops since April this year.

The Central Health Committee, Sudan's non-governmental organization, on Sunday (13/8) issued a warning regarding the environmental risks caused by the decay of bodies on the streets due to war and its impact on health and the environment.

"There have been problems affecting environmental health due to the bodies that were left in their original place, especially since some of them began to enter a period of decay," according to Sudan Tribute website, citing the Head of the Central Committee for Hiba Health Workers al-Makki.

"This situation requires handling in accordance with public health protocols in a state of emergency," he added.

London-based humanitarian organization Save the Children International, previously reported that thousands of bodies were rotting on the streets of Khartoum due to the morgue were unable to preserve bodies, as well as due to erratic power impacts on the cooling system.

intense fighting has been going on for more than 100 days between the military and RSF, particularly in strategic areas around the nation's capital and western part.

During the conflict, which has been going on since April, more than three thousand people have died. In addition, tens of thousands of people were injured and millions were displaced. Most of the violence occurred around the capital.
