Semarang Customs And Excise Failed To Send 2 Million Illegal Cigarettes

Semarang Customs and Excise thwarted the shipment of two million cigarettes without excise stamps transported by truck on the Pantura Semarang Line, Central Java.

Head of the Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Office of Type Customs A Semarang Bier Budy Kismulyanto said the disclosure began with patrols carried out by the prosecution and investigation team.

"The team suspects a truck crossing Jalan Kaligawe Semarang which passes on the border of Demak Regency and Semarang City," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 21.

Officers, he continued, then gave chase and stopped the truck for inspection.

During the examination, he said, it was found that around two million cigarettes of various brands were not attached to excise stamps.

From the results of the calculations, according to him, the illegal goods have an economic value of around Rp. 2.5 billion.

The truck and two million illegal cigarettes were then taken to the Semarang Customs Office with the driver and assistant for further processing.

The disclosure, he continued, could save the country from potential losses due to excise cigarettes which reached Rp1.7 billion
