13 People Died And 1.500 Treated, Bangladesh Faces The Current Deadly DHF Outbreak
Bangladesh is battling a deadly dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) outbreak this year over the past five years, prompting health experts to call for an emergency national public health.
On Tuesday, it was reported that 13 people died as a result of the outbreak, the highest number of deaths a day throughout this year, bringing the total death toll to 127. Nine of them came from the capital Dhaka.
Meanwhile, there are 1,533 new inpatients, thus increasing the total number of cases this year to reach 24 thousand, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DG).
The death rate from mosquito-borne fever has been the highest in the last five years, according to Djeg.
More women died, while men were more easily infected. People aged between 18-40 years were more easily infected and died, according to Djanya, who stated 24 of the total deaths occurred in children.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, 80 people died from dengue fever on the first 18 days in July while there were only nine deaths in the same period last year.
A public health specialist at an event on Monday in Dhaka regarding the dengue situation organized by the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), urged the government to take wider action as the situation got out of control.

Bangladesh reported its highest death toll from dengue fever in 2022, when 281 people died from the disease.
