Reviewing Selection For The U-17 World Cup, President Jokowi Disbursed The Target For The Indonesian National Team: Grateful For The Champion
BANDUNG - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reviewed the selection process for the U-17 Indonesian national team which was held at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung Regency, West Java, Wednesday, July 12. He was accompanied by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo and also the General Chair of the All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir.
On this occasion, Jokowi stated that the government is targeting the U-17 national team to qualify from the U-17 World Cup preliminary round.
"Yes, the first one can enter the preliminary, thank God he can enter the final, thank God he can win," said Jokowi.
He then praised Erick Thohir for being able to make total changes in PSSI's body. "I think the management under PSSI and under Mr. Erick Thohir has a total change so I want to see it," said Jokowi, as quoted from Antara, Wednesday, July 12.
According to him, the selection process like what was done should be appreciated. Apart from Bandung, the selection of the U-17 national team will also be carried out in nine other cities in Indonesia.
"I asked the coach of the Milky Way, how many were selected? Today 187 players and I don't know how many will be taken. If it's good, all 187 will be taken. One, two, three, that's it, taken," said the President.
Meanwhile, Indonesia U-17 National Team Coach Bima Sakti said the selection held at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium was attended by participants from various regions in West Java. The selection is an opportunity for children who have born 2006 to 2007. "We are grateful to have received the attention of the President and we are working with the Persib club, assisted also by Asprov (PSSI) West Java," said Bima.
