Showing Off Weapons On His Partner's IG Account, Young Player Memphiszzlies Sentenced To Heavy Punishment
JAKARTA - The NBA has imposed a severe sentence on Memphiszzlies player James "Ja" Morant. The player was sentenced to a 25-match ban
This severe sanction was given because his behavior was considered detrimental to the league. He was caught holding a firearm in a photo on his colleague's Instagram account.
"Ja Morant's decision to once again use firearms on social media is very worrying and confusing given the similar behavior in March and he has been suspended for eight matches," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said.
In May, Morant was seen on Instagram as a friend holding an object that looked like a weapon, it prompted an NBA investigation. Previously Gazzzlies had suspended Morant from team activities to anticipate NBA sanctions.
This is the second time Morant has received a suspension sentence from the NBA for the same reason.
"The potential of young people to imitate Ja's behavior is one of our concerns. In this situation, we believe the 25-match suspension is appropriate and makes it clear that being involved in reckless and irresponsible behavior with weapons will not be tolerated," said Adam Silver.
During the suspension period, Morant will not accept revenue for not participating in the public league or any team activities, including pre-season matches.
Morant will make around $33.5 million this season. He will now lose more than US$300 per game during the suspension of or a total of about US$7.5 million.
I have time to reflect and realize how many wounds I have caused. I would like to apologize to the NBA,zzlies, my teammates and Memphis City," said Ja Morant.
