The Case Of Seram Residents Shot Dead By An Wind Rifle Ends Peacefully Through Restorative Justice

AMBON - A general criminal case, the case of shooting by residents with an air rifle was resolved peacefully through restorative justice.

The perpetrator Viky Rumonin accidentally shot at the victim's head Fajrin Rumadaul while hunting birds in the Eastern Seram forest, Maluku.

"The suspects in this case are Santo alias Mas who was charged with violating Article 359 of the Criminal Code, while the perpetrators and victims are still children," said Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Attorney General's Office Wahyudi Kareba in Ambon as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 13.

According to him, this criminal incident occurred some time ago when the suspect Santo, who was carrying an air rifle, went with Fandi Rumuar, Fajrin Rumadaul, Viky Rumonin, Arvan Rumonin, and Irvan Rumonan into the forest to hunt birds.

While in the forest, the suspect placed his air rifle which was loaded with bullets but was not locked on the ground and then docked it on a clove tree.

Then Viky, who took the air rifle, accidentally pointed his license at the victim's head and pulled the trigger.

This case was then resolved peacefully through restorative justice after the parties agreed.

Acting Kejari SBT I Gede Widhartama accompanied by Kasi Pidum and the Public Prosecutor submitted a request for a case settlement through restorative justice.

Restorative justice for this case was resolved through a video conference with DIR Oharda at the Indonesian AGO's PIDUM HOURs at the Maluku Attorney General's Office, Aspidum, and Kasi in the Maluku Attorney General's Office.

The diversion deliberation which was held on May 11, 2023 between Viky Rumonin's children accompanied by their parents and parents of the victims has been reached an agreement.

The case submitted by the East Seram District Attorney has met the provisions of Restorative Justice requirements so that they can be accepted and implemented.
