Anies Baswedan: Elections Are Not A Matter Of Continuing Yesterday
BOGOR - The presidential candidate from the Coalition for Change Anies Baswedan said that the election was not a matter of continuing President Jokowi's government programs and previously.
Anies Baswedan explained that since Indonesia's independence, there have been ideals in accordance with the name of the party that carries it, namely social justice for all its people.
"Alhamdulillah, our journey has been long and it has been underlined, that the journey of this nation began by forming a country, named the Republic of Indonesia. In 1945, since 1945 as our country wants to achieve a goal. I usually call it the promise of independence," said Anies while attending the halal bihalal event of PKS cadres. Bogor City, West Java at GOR Pajajaran reported by ANTARA, Sunday, June 11.
Anies said that the promise of independence protects, improves, educates and makes Indonesia a part of countries in the world.
"So our independence, as a country, is on its way every five years, evaluating travel routes," he said.
According to Anies, every five years, it's like traveling in the forest, there's a starting point and the end point of each 2 kilometer road stops to see the compass, making sure it's still on the road that suits the destination.
"If you don't move a little less, take the route and then straighten it out," said Anies.
"So if there is an election, this is not a matter of continuing yesterday. The election is to pave the way to the destination of this republic. So, don't worry. Why? Because the goal is not about looking at the last five or ten years. The goal is that every five years we stop for a moment to determine the direction, determine who is ready to lead this team again in the next five years," said Anies.
Anies hopes that the sentence of justice for all Indonesian people is not just read out in ceremonies but carried out in daily government programs.
"So it means in all aspects. In all aspects the changes are not stopping, it's not a matter of continuing, the change is about incorporating elements of justice in every policy made. So we hope that in such a way, there will be sustainability, but there will also be changes. There are sustainability and changes, because it is impossible to just continue, it can't be just a change, but an element of justice," said Anies Baswedan.
