Banyumas Police Detainee Dies, Suspicious Family Finds Wound In Head Requests Autopsy

JATENG - Banyumas Police Chief Commissioner (Kombes) of Police Edy Suranta Sitepu confirmed that the prisoner with the initials OK (26) who was involved in the motor vehicle theft case died due to illness.

Kombes Edy confirmed that OK's family is currently making reports because they are suspicious of injuries all over the deceased's body.

"We have received the report," he said while giving a press statement at the Banyumas Police, Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, Monday, June 5 afternoon.

Based on the doctor's statement, Kombes Edy said that the body of the deceased OK had wounds, one of which was head injuries.

In addition, he continued, the deceased suffered from electrolyte deficiency, chronic kidney failure, and the function of his liver was damaged by alcoholic beverages.

"Meanwhile, the doctor's statement. However, we will confirm again," he said.

Regarding the family's request for an autopsy on OK's body, Kombes Edy said the police would facilitate it.

Kombes Edy emphasized that the police would conduct an in-depth investigation and examination regarding the death of OK, including the detainees at the Banyumas Police.

"Because there is also information related to the abuse of fellow detainees. We will study this CCTV. On the next occasion we will convey it further," said Kombes Edy.

Furthermore, Kombes Edy explained the chronology of OK's arrest, until he was finally sent home in a state of death.

"The suspect with the initials OK was arrested on May 16, which previously had a police report dated May 15 related to the theft of a motor vehicle," he explained.

Furthermore, he said, the Baturraden Police Criminal Investigation Unit, assisted by the Banyumas Police Satreskrim Resmob Unit, conducted an investigation and based on witness testimony and instructions at the scene of the case, it was found that the perpetrator of the theft had the initials OK.

According to him, this was reinforced by the confession of the suspect OK while undergoing examination after being arrested at his home, Purwosari Village, Baturraden District, Banyumas.

"After being arrested and detained, the suspect was put in the Banyumas Police detention cell on Thursday (18 May) afternoon," he said.

A few hours after being in a detention cell, he said, officers at around 19:00 WIB found the suspect OK sick.

Therefore, continued Kombes Edy, officers contacted the Banyumas Police doctor. After the examination, it was decided to be taken to the Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto Hospital.

"Since May 18, the suspect has been undergoing treatment until June 2 yesterday. On June 2, the suspect died," he said.

After the suspect OK died, his party contacted the family. Currently, the suspect's body has been buried.

Previously, his family accompanied by his legal adviser, Silvia Devi Soembarto, asked the Banyumas Police to thoroughly investigate the case of the death of the late OK.

They asked the Banyumas Police to conduct an autopsy on OK's body.
