Having An Extraordinary Performance, BMW Is Confident In Presenting Mercedes EQE Competitors
JAKARTA - BMW has presented the latest Series 5 which provides options for gasoline and electric variants. Especially for the electric variant, the presence of i5 as an addition to the BMW electrification model lineup, complementing the presence of i3, i4, i7, and iX.
The i5 model carries a classic three-box design with a long hood and a kink Hofmeister accent that gives a modern touch. BMW remains loyal to embedding the manufacturer's signature kidney grille, although its size is not as large as it is in i4 or M4.
On the back, there is an elegant flat LED light and a bumper that shows an aggressive impression. The overall design of this sedan has similarities to the tough i7.
Reporting from Motor1 on Wednesday, May 24, i5 features a digital dashboard with a 12.3-inch information screen placed behind the steering wheel, as well as a 14.9-inch control display that is well integrated.
The installed Curved Display touch screen uses the BMW OS 8.5 operating system, equipped with the latest graphics and Quick Select which facilitates access to information.
The i5 model uses the BMW CLAR platform and comes in two electric variants: eDrive40 and i5 M60 xDrive.
The difference is, eDrive40 has a single motor that drives the rear wheel (RWD), while i5 M60 xDrive has all-wheel drive (AWD). Both adopt the same BMW eDrive technology.
BMW i5 eDrive40 was able to generate a power of 335 dk and a torque of 400 Nm. When Sport Boost or Launch Control is activated, torques can increase to 429 Nm.
Meanwhile, the i5 M60 xDrive displays a higher performance using two electric motors that produce 590 dk and a 743 Nm peak torque, which can increase to 819 Nm by activating the M Sport Boost or M Launch Control.
In terms of speed, i5 eDrive40 can reach 0 to 100 km/h in a time of 5.7 seconds with a peak speed of 193 km/hour. While the i5 M60 xDrive only takes 3.7 seconds to reach 0 to 100 km/hour, with the highest speed reaching 230 km/hour.
These two variants are equipped with a high-voltage battery with a capacity of 84.3 kWh, allowing BMW i5 eDrive40 to cover a distance of up to 474 km with one charge. Meanwhile, when the battery is fully charged, the i5 M60 xDrive variant can cover a distance of up to 411 km.
The price of this Mercedes-Benz EQE competitor is around 67,795 US dollars or around Rp1,013 billion for the variance of 5 eDrive40. Meanwhile, the i5 M60 xDrive is sold for 85,095 US dollars or around Rp1.27 billion.
