Philippines Evacuates 300 Citizens From Sudan To Egypt
JAKARTA - A total of seven buses carrying 300 Filipino citizens moving from Sudan to Egypt by utilizing a 72-hour ceasefire period. The Philippine Foreign Ministry (DFA) said 80 Filipinos had left Sudan, including 50 people from the first batch that had already been evacuated. "As of Wednesday morning Sudan time, at least seven additional buses were heading to Egypt by transporting at least 300 Filipinos," said Philippine Deputy Foreign Minister Eduardo Jose de Vega as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 26. De Vega provides guarantees to refugees arriving at the border, the Philippine Embassy in Egypt is trying their best to help its citizens leave Sudan. They are also coordinating with the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in facilitating the temporary presence of refugees in the Arab country. "The problem we are facing is the length of the process on the Egyptian border which takes more than a day. Our embassy is sending a team to address the issue," de Vega said.
