Lebaran 2023, Central Sulawesi Police Record 44 Accident Cases And 12 People Died
PALU - The Central Sulawesi Regional Police recorded 44 traffic accidents that occurred during the eight days of the 2023 Ketupat Tinombala Operation to secure the flow of homecoming and back to Lebaran 2023.
"We constantly appeal to the entire community, especially road users, to further increase caution in driving to minimize the risk of traffic violations and accidents," said Head of Public Relations of the Central Sulawesi Police, Police Commissioner Djoko Wienartono, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 26.
He explained that 44 accident cases were recorded from April 18 to 25, 2023, which resulted in 12 deaths, 19 serious injuries and 57 minor injuries with material losses estimated at around Rp. 147 million more.
"To prevent accidents, police officers have given reprimands to 5,340 violators, static electronic ticket 2,040 times, mobile electronic ticket 16 times, and manual ticket 106 violators," he said.
He stated that the preventive efforts made by police officers in realizing security, safety, order, and smooth traffic were quite massive, by making direct arrangements for 5,278 times, then guarding 2,193 times, escorting 58 times and then patrolling 4,466 times.
"The appeal from the police is also routinely carried out through social media or conventional media, then traffic safety education through the spread or installation of banners, brochures, stickers and advertisements in strategic areas," said Djoko.

He mentioned most of the causes of the accident because the driver or driver was exhausted, sleepy, violated the speed limit, preceded/or moved lanes, and violated pedestrian areas.
"The highest number of cases occurred on April 25 with 11 cases, then April 21 there were nine cases, April 23 eight cases, April 24 seven cases, April 20 five cases, April 19 and April 22 two cases each," he said.
