Ford Reshuffles Oakville Factory To Pursue Electric Vehicle Production

JAKARTA - In an effort to compete with other electric vehicle manufacturers, Tesla in particular, Ford will convert the SUV vehicle assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario into a high-volume electric vehicle production center in Canada.

The project is in line with the Canadian Union's pledges during contract negotiations in 2020 also according to the company's plans to scale up electric vehicle production and make it more accessible to millions of people, reported by Reuters, Tuesday, April 11.

Ford is planning a reshuffle of the Oakville complex in the second quarter of 2024, adding several new battery assemblies and stopping most factory-produced workers until the latest electric vehicle assembly system operates by the end of 2024.

The cost of this reshuffle reached 1.34 billion US dollars (approximately Rp. 19.8 trillion), which is part of an investment program worth 50 billion US dollars until 2026.

For information, the Oakville plant is currently producing Ford Edge and Lincoln Nurulus SUVs which are internal combustion cars.
