Observer Suggests National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Investigate IDR 349 Trillion Of Odd Transactions

JAKARTA - ASA Indonesia Institute researcher Reza Indragiri Amriel suggested that the National Police Chief, General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo proactively investigate odd transactions of money laundering of Rp. 349 trillion which was revealed by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. According to Reza, the National Police still needs to continue to increase its portfolio in the form of taking action against cases of rasuah. At least to convince the public that the National Police is not inferior to the Attorney General's Office. "If the National Police Chief Listyo Sigit appears face-to-face in hunting down anyone involved in Rp. 349 trillion, this could be an bidder to the public's sense of massiveness due to the many cases and turmoil caused by the actions of the National Police," said Reza in his statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday, April 8. Reza highlighted the news about the "walk out" action of members of the National Police who served in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) when Brigadier General Pol. Endar Priantoro met Firli Bahuri.

He said the action was like a "Cicak vs Buaya" of the umpteenth volume. But the main point of the conflict between the National Police and the KPK (in the case of Endar Priantoro) needs to be observed carefully. "Ideally, I hope that the walk out of the members of the National Police is a form of firmness in eradicating corruption, not limited to the burning of the spirit of the Korsa due to the presence of Polri personnel being disturbed by non-Polri parties," he said. Reza stated that if the action was due to a manifestation of determination in eradicating corruption, the Police deserved to be supported. Because, friction between two institutions and several sides could have an impact on cohesiveness in law enforcement work. However, if the walk out is more motivated by solidarity among fellow brown clothes (Polri uniform), then it is an event that is not relatively extraordinary. "Corsa events are indeed commonly sparked when there are parties outside organizations who are considered to be trying to disturb fellow members of the organization," he said. Reza gives support to the Police in terms of eradicating corruption, because many people think that the KPK has lost independence, professionalism, and integrity. Such assessment is a reminder for the Police to strengthen their ability as a permanent law enforcement agency that should be reliable for eradicating corruption.

He further said that the case of the flow of Rp349 trillion in money laundering funds could add to the Polri's portfolio in prosecuting cases of rasuah.

"Imagine, for example, if the National Police is proactive in welcoming the ball thrown by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs related to odd transactions of money laundering of Rp. 349 trillion. This is much more powerful than calling state officials who like to hang out," he said. now the National Police Chief has been in the third stage as well as the last stage to realize the 16 Priority programs of the National Police Chief. The National Police Chief's Priority Program is not specific and explicitly alludes to the eradication of corruption and the like," said Reza.
