This match was already hot from the start of the minute. Spectators from both teams were seen immediately turning on the flare so that black smoke enveloped the back stands of the De Kuip Stadium goal, Rotterdam.
This unfavorable situation made this match stop for 30 minutes. The players also had to be evacuated off the field.
The officials then continued the match after things improved.
However, the incident was not the end of controversy. In the middle of the first half, Ajax star Klaassen was hit in the back of his head by an object believed to be a match.
The incident made the game so chaotic that the players were pulled off the field again. Security then confirmed that they had arrested the perpetrators of the throwing.
"Tonight during the semifinals of the Dutch Cup tournament, we saw a player injured in the head because someone among the audience threw an object onto the field," read an official statement from the Dutch football federation quoted by The Sun.
This happened despite precautions, such as nets in various places in the stadium. Recently a player was beaten by a supporter and now another low point is happening again
"Thousands of people went to the stadium to watch the players play football. So it was crazy that they weren't safe on the pitch," the statement added.
Ajax will next face PSV in the final match on April 30. PSV itself got a ticket to the final party after securing a 2-1 win over Spakenburg.
