Jokowi Reveals Meeting Megawati To Discuss PDIP 2024 Presidential Candidates

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) admitted that his meeting with the Chairperson of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri discussed the party's presidential candidate (candidate) to participate in the 2024 election.

"There must be (discussion of presidential candidates)," said President Jokowi when answering reporters' questions after the "COVID-19 Handling Award" event in Jakarta, Monday, March 20, was confiscated by Antara.

Previously, President Jokowi met the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Saturday, March 18. The meeting was also attended by PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.

"What is clear is that I convey the views of the figures we have and from the data we have," said the President.

However, President Jokowi refused to convey the presidential candidate promoted by PDIP.

"The candidate asked Mrs. Mega," added the President.

In addition to discussing presidential candidates in the 2024 General Election, the meeting also discussed the implementation of the 2024 election to the PDIP coalition while enjoying lunch.

Meanwhile, in his statement, Hasto Kristiyanto said that during the meeting, the two figures also built understanding of the direction of the future, as well as various strategic agendas related to foreign policies facing various geopolitical challenges, including encouraging mastery of science, research and innovation, including realizing food sovereignty, as a path for independent Indonesia.

The meeting lasted for three hours. According to Hasto, in the first two hours, the meeting was held specifically, in a place full of Megawati's memory when she was with Bung Karno living in the palace.

The meeting ended with eating together with the typical menu of the archipelago which became Bung Karno's favorite.

"The meeting ended with eating together. President Jokowi promoted vegetables as Bung Karno's favorite, seafood fried rice, village chicken soup, and of course Solo's signature krumpuk," said Hasto.
