2024 Election Postponed, KPU Files Additional Appeal Memory For Central Jakarta District Court Decision

The General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia submitted an additional memorandum of appeal to complete the appeal file for the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court (Jakpus) which ordered the KPU to stop the implementation of the 2024 General Election stage and start from scratch.

Member of the Indonesian KPU Yulianto Sudrajat said the memory of the additional appeal had been submitted by his party to the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday, March 16, after being suggested by Commission II of the DPR RI in a hearing (RDP) at the DPR RI Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday 15 March. "As soon as the RDP was completed on Wednesday afternoon, Thursday morning we immediately compiled an additional memorandum of appeal and we immediately included it," said Drajat, Yulianto Sudrajat's nickname, quoted by ANTARA, Friday 17 March. Previously in the RDP KPU RI with Commission II DPR RI, the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) RI, and the Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP) RI, Deputy Chairman of Commission II DPR RI Junimart Girsang asked the KPU to make additional appeal memory to strengthen the appeal application submitted in response to the Central Jakarta District Court's decision related to the Prima Party's lawsuit. In addition to making additional appeal memory, Junimart also asked the KPU to hire a lawyer's services. Regarding the request, Drajat said that the KPU was still preparing lawyers to face the existing legal process. "We are still trying to prepare. We will appoint a legal representative to face the appeal trial," he said. In the trial at the Central Jakarta District Court, Jakarta, Thursday 2 March, the panel of judges granted the Prima Party's lawsuit against the KPU not to carry out the remaining stages of the 2024 election and carried out the election stages from the start for approximately 2 years and 4 months 7 days.

"Punishing the defendant (KPU) not to carry out the remaining stages of the 2024 General Election since this decision was pronounced and carrying out the general election stages from the beginning for approximately 2 years 4 months 7 days," said the panel of judges chaired by Oyong, quoted from decision Number 757 / Pdt.G / 2022 / PN Jkt.Pst. Over that decision, the KPU officially filed an appeal on Friday (10/3). The appeal was made by the Indonesian KPU represented by the Head of the Advocacy and Completion Bureau Andi Krisna by submitting a memorandum of appeal at the Central Jakarta District Court.
