Health Office: 2 Leptospirosis Patients In Probolinggo City Died
ProBOLINGGO - Head of the Probolinggo City Health, Population Control and Family Planning (Dinkes P2KB) Dr Nurul Hasanah Hidayati said two patients who were exposed to leptospirosis in Probolinggo City, East Java, died because they were suspected of being late in bringing patients to health facilities."From January to March 2023 there were seven cases of leptospirosis and two of them died," he said in Probolinggo City, Antara, Tuesday, March 14.Two patients who died due to exposure to leptospirosis were residents of Wonoasih District and Kanigaran District who died in March 2023."The spread of leptospirosis is caused by Leptospira bacteria which can spread through mouse urinosis and the spread of bacteria through mouse urine is usually found in dirty puddles of water," he said.He explained that the initial symptoms of the patient who contracted leptospirosis were not very specific, such as fever and body pain, so sometimes the patient concerned did not know if he was exposed and if the treatment was late, the disease could attack the kidney and liver."If it is not handled appropriately and detected early on, it will be too late to treat the patient, so that it can cause death," he said.He appealed to the public to be careful, especially residents in an environmental area where there are many rats and puddles of water, so that people who are active in an environment prone to rat urinary pollution can use boots and gloves."We urge the public to avoid areas of puddles with lots of rats. If you have to be at that location, then use boots so you don't get urine exposed to the virus," he said.The Probolinggo City P2KB Health Office noted that in 2022 there were six cases of leptospirosis and one patient died.
