Regarding The Prohibition Of Motorcycle Rental Foreigners In Bali, It Does Not Have A Too Impact On The Economy
JAKARTA - The ban on renting motorbikes for foreign tourists in Bali is considered inappropriate. This will have an impact on the rental business for rental motorbikes on the Island of the Gods.
Director of the Institute for Development of Economic and Finance (Indef) Tauhid Ahmad assessed that the ban should not be necessary. The reason is, what needs to be enforced is the applicable law.
"In my opinion, if it is prohibited, yes, there is no need, but what problem is being sought, whether the problem is law enforcement or behavior. If it violates, yes, just ticket it, direct deportation," said Tauhid when contacted by VOI, Monday, March 13.
"In foreign countries too can, yes, if the wrong ticket is ticketed, imprisoned, according to the level of error. Right, this also eliminates the sustenance of people who own vehicles in the local area, yes, I think so," he added.
Tauhid thinks that most foreign tourists have only violated traffic or violated polite norms. The rest, he continued, there are still many tourists who are good and provide income for the Balinese themselves.
"I think it's just a matter of taking action if (international tourists) do something wrong, for example violating ethics of decency or violating traffic, even making trouble, immediately from the start, if necessary deportation, yes, deportation. After giving a warning, deportation, then I think it is more entitled than one or two people disrupting it, many tourists are still good," he said.
Although later the policy will still be implemented, Tauhid emphasized that the economic sector in the Bali area itself will not have much impact.
"Later, they will definitely run to four wheels, yes. Maybe, it could be a grab that will be a lot of local drivers, that's it, it's detrimental, yes, but if it's economically not too big," he concluded.
Previously reported, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster forbade foreign tourists to rent/rental motorbikes while traveling on the Island of the Gods.
Koster explained that the provincial government already has a number of regulations governing foreign nationals through the Bali Governor's regulation regarding tourism governance in this province, including the prohibition for foreign nationals to use motorized vehicles.
"So, the tourists must travel by car from the travel agent. It is no longer allowed to use vehicles that are not from travel agents. Borrowing or renting is no longer allowed," he said, Sunday, March 12.
Based on the results of the Bali Police's action, it was found that many tourists, especially foreign tourists, violated traffic rules, ranging from not wearing clothes while driving, not wearing helmets, not having a license to drive.
