World Championships Becomes Hendra/Ahsan's Great Target In 2023
JAKARTA - The pair Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan will compete in the 2023 Badminton World Championships. Both will go all out in the tournament which will be held starting August 21.
Hendra said the 2023 World Championships were his big target with Ahsan. The reason is, they don't know if they can participate in the next edition.
"We don't know if we will still play again in the next World Championships. Hopefully we will be maximal at this year's World Championships," Hendra said on PB Djarum's official website.
Before facing the World Championships, Hendra/Ahsan first entered a tournament that was no less severe, namely All England 2023. This event will take place on March 14-19, 2023.
The couple, nicknamed The Daddies, admitted that the drawing was quite heavy. Moreover, they already have to meet their compatriot, Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan in the first round.
"With a fairly heavy draw, we are trying to take steps one step first," said Ahsan.
Meanwhile, PBSI's men's doubles coach, Herry Iman Pierngadi, assessed that Hendra/Ahsan were still able to compete with a younger partner. According to him, the level of The Daddies' game is still not inferior to world mixed doubles.
In my opinion, as long as they are still able, why not. The age is just a number. The world's players still have a hard time defeating them," said Herry IP.
