4,665 Prisoners In East Java Don't Have ID Cards
SURABAYA - As many as 4,665 out of 23,431 Correctional Families (WBP) in East Java do not have National Identity Number (NIK) and residential identity card (KTP). The East Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkum HAM) has begun updating WBP data through the Correctional Database System (SDP) to fulfill WBP rights in the upcoming 2024 election.
Head of the regional office of East Java Kemenkum HAM, Imam Jauhari said updating and matching administrative data is a strategic step, in minimizing the existence of demographic data anomalies. Imam appealed to all his staff to take several steps.
Among them is to recapitulate WBP data that is still active on 14 February 2024 to be reported as a List of Potential Electoral Voters (DP4) no later than 23 June 2023.
"WBP who entered after June 23, 2023, were reported as an Additional Voter List (DPTb) to the KPUD and the Directorate of Corrections through the Corrections Division," said Imam, in his written statement, Wednesday, March 1.
According to him, updating data must be submitted continuously. Considering that this is an activity every five years, and also to fulfill WBP's rights in the upcoming 2024 election. "Updating is done to improve service," he said.

Coordination with related agencies is needed, especially by regional offices with the provincial Dispendukcapil.
"With good coordination, it will be easier for the work units in the ranks of the East Java Kemenkum HAM, both synchronizing and recording WBP data by the local Dispendukcapil," he said.
