Mastodon Don't Have Time Toget To Work On New Albums
JAKARTA - In an interview with Canada's The Metal Voice, guitarist Mastodon Bill Kelliher was asked if he and his bandmates had started the process of writing songs for the follow-up to the album aired And Grim (2021).
"There is no cover valve for writing and writing riffs and things like that; it always happens. I always write. 75 percent of my days I usually play guitar and I always write things. I have lots of ideas," said Bill.
"We're trying to be quite ambitious to write songs before we go for the next Gojira tour and will be released at some point - during the tour, before the tour, between the two legs. Who knows?"
When asked to clarify whether he and his bandmates had started thinking about their next album, this was Bill's answer.
"Of course. I always compose riffs. I have some framework ideas. But it's difficult. Even though we already have this free time, I'm still busy doing other things," he said.
"Life doesn't rotate around Mastodon for me. I have two children and a wife that I have to look after, and two of my dogs. There's a lot going on. But I'm definitely excited and really ready to start writing new albums.
"I don't lack riffs or ideas or anything else," he explained. "We still have a lot of creativity left in our band, and as four different individuals, and we are all one hundred percent committed to our band. So as soon as we get home from this tour cycle, we'll probably be writing some ideas on the road. I'm ready to show people some of the things I have and start when we get home from the tour, it's like, 'Okay. We've got some ideas.'
"I have a recording studio, and that's where we did our last recording, so it's very easy to order time there and just go in," Bill said.
"And when we feel like we want to be creative, we can. I feel like now we can be more creative and take our time, like we did in the last album."
