BPBD Notes 5,239 Disasters Occurred In Jakarta In The Last 5 Years

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded 5,239 disasters in the capital city for the last 5 years, from 2018 to 2022.

The details of the disasters that occurred during the last 5 years were 3,141 fires, 1,116 fallen trees, 406 floods, 254 flooded roads, 202 extraordinary incidents, 55 landslides, 42 social conflicts, and 23 strong winds.

"The disaster in Jakarta in the 2018 to 2022 period is dominated by residential/hunian fire events, which are followed by hydrometeorological disasters," said Head of the Disaster Data and Information Processing Service Unit (Kasatpel) DKI Jakarta BPBD Michael Sitanggang in his statement, Wednesday, February 15.

Michael explained, during the last five years the most fires occurred in 2019. This condition was caused by the phenomenon of El Nino.

Meanwhile, hydrometeorological disasters also often occur in Jakarta due to climate change and the La Nina Triple Dip phenomenon.

"The hydromoeorological disasters that occur include floods, strong winds, landslides, and fallen trees," said Michael.

Based on the composition of disasters per year, as many as 1,077 disasters occurred Throughout 2018, 962 disasters in 2019, 828 disasters in 2020, 961 disasters in 2021, and 1,411 disasters in 2022.

In mapping cities and administrative districts in Jakarta for the past five years, as many as 887 disasters in North Jakarta, 1,220 disasters in West Jakarta, 666 disasters in Central Jakarta, 1,437 disasters in East Jakarta, 1,547 disasters in South Jakarta, and 65 disasters in the Thousand Islands.
