HULU SUNGAI UTARA - North Hulu Sungai Regency (HSU) South Kalimantan provided assistance to 4,338 pregnant women to prevent tengkes (stunting) due to malnutrition.

The Head of Family Welfare of the HSU Regency Population and Family Control Service, Vivi Suprihatini, said that the target for pregnant women who received assistance was 4,338 people.

"The target set by the central government through the BKKBN is 4,338 pregnant women to ensure that all pregnant women can be accompanied," said Vivi.

He said his party mobilized doctors, midwives, PKK members, and Family Planning cadres to accompany pregnant women.

Vivi mentioned that the accompanying team served one person for one village, but this could be adjusted to the conditions and population at that location.

According to him, the midwife is the " spearhead" for services and assistance to the services of pregnant women.

The HSU Regency Government has launched KB Villages in 14 villages spread over six sub-districts during 2022, providing free family planning services, socializing to schools, and forming TPK for assistance to every pregnant woman.

Chairman of the Branch Management of the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) HSU Rusitah Regency in Amuntai, Monday, revealed that the number of local IBI members was 429 people.

"Meanwhile, the number of villages in HSU is 214 and five urban villages, so 42 villages have no midwives," said Rusitah.

Based on information on stunting cases in HSU Regency, it was once one of the highest in South Kalimantan in 2013.

Basic Health Research (Riskesdes) of the Ministry of Health in 2013 announced that 100 regencies/cities throughout Indonesia had the highest prevalence of stunting, including HSU Regency with a prevalence of 56 percent.

However, this prevalence rate gradually decreased to 21.15 percent in 2020 and 20.9 percent in 2021 based on data from the Indonesian Nutrition Status Study (SSGI).

Then, HSU Regency was ranked second in the assessment of the Convergence of the Acceleration of Stunting Prevention (KP2S) at the South Kalimantan Province level in 2022.

In accordance with President Joko Widodo's instructions so that stunting cases in all regions can decrease to 14 percent in 2024.
