Ethereum Founder Vitalik Buterin Contributed 99 ETH Worth IDR 2.3 Billion For Turkey's Post-Earthquake Recovery
JAKARTA Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has proven his concern for the community by making two donations to help victims of the Turkish and Syrian earthquakes. Earthquake victims reached 33,000 people. An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale on February 6 caused many casualties and worsened the situation in this region.
To help the victims, Buterin distributed Ethereum to several organizations that focused on disaster relief. His latest donation of 50 ETH or about $77,000 was given on February 12 to Anka Relief. The organization highly appreciates Buterin's philanthropic actions and reveals that it also accepts other crypto donations from various sources around the world.
Anka Relief also provides a list of crypto wallets that can be used to make donations. Various Web3 supporting organizations also participated in collecting crypto donations to help earthquake victims.
With this good action, Vitalik Buterin proved that the crypto world also has the potential to help the community and provide support for when they need it. It also shows how crypto technology can be used for positive things and has a positive impact on society.
Vitalik Buterin, if in total, has donated 99 ETH, worth about 150,000 US dollars (equivalent to Rp2.3 billion), to help victims and families affected by the earthquake. This donation was received by Ahbap, a non-profit organization that is committed to providing assistance to Turkey.
Ahbap has received crypto donations worth 4.3 million US dollars (Rp59.5 billion) worldwide, with stablecoins as selected tokens. Ahbap's wallet currently has a crypto asset of 622,000 US dollars (around Rp8.7 billion).
Binance, one of the leading crypto exchanges, also helped by donating 5 million US dollars (Rp70 billion) and providing BNB airdrops worth 100 US dollars (equivalent to Rp1.5 million) to the affected residents. Bitci, a local crypto exchange in Turkey, sent aid trucks to the earthquake zone while stating that monthly revenue would be donated to Ahbap. BtcTurk also donated 6 million lira and clothing assistance to the affected zone in collaboration with local governments.
This is not the first time the crypto industry has helped victims of natural disasters. After the earthquake in Nepal in 2015, the crypto community also sent Bitcoin donations to help organizations in the country.
