National Press Day, Chairman Of The House Of Representatives, Puan Maharani, Invites Press Personnel To Prioritize Healthy And Qualityy Journalism
JAKARTA - The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, invites members of the press to prioritize the practice of healthy and professional journalism in the midst of the large amount of hoax information that is spreading in the community. Puan said this in commemoration of the 2023 National Press Day (HPN) which falls every February 9. He also highlighted the crucial role of the press in the era of information progress. Therefore, he invited the Indonesian people to support healthy and quality journalism for the advancement of the national press. "In the midst of flash floods information, especially from social media, the national press must further strengthen its position as a clearing house. So, the public is not swayed by rumors and hoax news," said Puan in a statement, Thursday, February 9. The PDI-Perjuangan faction politician regrets that there are now more hoax news spreading in Indonesia. So, he invites press personnel to continue to prioritize healthy journalism practices. Not only that, he reminded, the national press is absolute must have independence considering that the press is the fourth pillar of democracy. "Healthy and quality harmony is also very necessary in dealing with political years. The public must be invited to think critically and substantively so that the presence of the national press strengthens and nourishes democracy," said the first woman to serve as Chair of the DPR RI. With the theme "HPN 2023 Pers Merdeka, Democracy with dignity, he also invited the public to support the existence of the national press. According to him, there are several ways that it can be done by the community to support the presence of healthy and quality national press. One, for example, he said, by subscribing to mass media that have proven to have good journalism traditions. "We know that currently many quality media have also migrated to digital, but unfortunately there are still few people who choose to subscribe," he said. In fact, according to him, the subscription fee from readers can be the capital for the media to present good journalistic products. Therefore, the community is expected to contribute to the progress of the national press. "Many quality mass media are now facing challenges due to the heavy production burden. Not a few large historical media have rolled or the occurrence of layoffs on reliable press personnel.
