Famous For Your Smallness, Emir Mahira It Turns Out That You Often Hate Casting

JAKARTA - Emir Mahira feels proud to be able to act through the film Dear David. Although not his first comeback, the actor considers this film to make him find pleasure in acting in the film industry.

"Personally, Dear David, it's probably one of the best opportunities have come to my life and at that time when I needed the most," said Emir Mahira at a press conference today, Wednesday, February 8.

The statement was not without reason expressed by Emira Mahira. He admitted that he had thought about resigning from acting because he always failed in the casting process. Even though he was famous as a child, Emir had difficulty getting a role after completing his studies abroad and returning to Indonesia.

"Honestly before Dear David, I thought of resigning from the world of acting. I tried to make a comeback, but the response was less positive. I don't have followers, many have achieved more during my studies abroad," said Emir.

"When I came here I got the rejection everywhere. So Palari Films and Netflix want to work with me, it made me reflect again who I am," he continued.

Emir also admitted that he had experienced a lot of resistance to many projects, one of which was where he did a camera test but the person who audited him left.

"When I wanted to make another comeback, I was refused to take any scene, no matter how small. I once tested the camera, the camera person pulled it out. There is also the 'oh, this is the previous Emir, it's bad now', the oath is there," said Emir Mahira.

"Until finally getting an extraordinary opportunity from Palari. It's mean so much, they trust me again someone whose calculation is newcomer," he said again.

Dear David producer Muhammad Al-Zaidy has expressed his interest in seeing Emir Mahira in a feature film.

"Emir (at that time) just returned to his homeland and it's a good way for us to meet again. Seeing Emir in a film feature," said Zaidy on the same day.

Through his character, Emir Mahira hopes that Dear David's film, which is not only entertaining but also gives an impression for the audience to be themselves.

"Although we feel pressure from society, the message from this film is enough to be yourself. It's enough to be you," concluded Emir Mahira.

Dear David tells the story of Laras (Sherina Cinnamon) who writes fantasy about her schoolmate, David (Emir Mahira), a popular football captain. One day, his fantasy blog spreads and breaks their relationship. Dear David's film will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, February 9.
