"I feel challenged today to be able to get to know Chinese Indonesian culture again. Maybe I don't learn the language, because this is the most difficult language in the world and it takes time to learn. However, to get to know more about its history, culture and acculturation in Indonesia," Angela said in her official statement, Saturday, January 28.
The Chinese Cultural Festival was initiated by the people of North Sumatra Chinese Indonesia (MITSU) in the context of celebrating the Chinese New Year and is one of the celebrations of the Chinese people which is still maintained today in Indonesia.
The Chinese New Year celebration has a deep meaning for the Chinese community. In the celebration, there are a number of interesting and unique traditions, such as the "Lo Hei" tradition that serves Yusheng meals or fresh fish salads.
Yusheng will beducted together with his family. Then, every family member takes a fish salad and lifts it with a high look. The higher you are, the better the luck that can be fulfilled.
Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Angela had the opportunity to perform the Lo Hei tradition which was presented at the Chinese Cultural Festival. Apart from Lo Hei, this festival is enlivened by lion dance, inviting, and wushu performances.
Through the Chinese Cultural Festival which was held for the second time, Angela hopes that Medan City can be a contributor to the movement of domestic tourists and foreign tourists, which is the target that must be achieved by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in the year of 3.5 million-7.4 million foreign tourist visits and 1.2 billion-1.4 billion domestic tourist movements.
