For Food Security, Ganjar Pranowo Immediately Change Sleep Fields In Central Java Into Productive

Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo together with Central Java Police Chief Ahmad Luthfi, Pangdam IV Diponegoro Widi Prasetijono and Perum Perhutani have formed partnerships with corn planting. This activity is for land diversification to support regional food security.

Corn planting is carried out on 475 hectares of land in Petak 49 F, Pringapus District, Semarang Regency. The activity organized by the Central Java Food Task Force was also attended by the forkopimda ranks and hundreds of corn farmers.

"We can take advantage of the land owned by Perhutani which in my opinion can accelerate existing commodities. Today we can adjust corn, later in other places to other places," said Ganjar at the location after planting corn.

Central Java Province has been known as a national food barn. Many of the country's food commodities produced by Central Java, including corn. For corn production in Central Java, until September 2022 it reached 3,047,712 tons.

In order to strengthen food security, Ganjar said that sleeping lands, which have been lacking in terms of benefit, must be encouraged into fertile and productive land to produce corn and other types of plants.

The goal, Ganjar continued, is to increase productive land for food, the use of land is also to improve the regional economy. Moreover, rural communities are looking for livelihoods as farmers.

Ganjar explained, if there are many lands in Central Java that are productive and farmers can use them, then it is only the government, companies and other off takers who work to buy regional agricultural products.

"So if today we can plant and private companies are ready to take off, then we can manage it for local needs, usually the highest for animal feed," explained Ganjar, Wednesday, January 25.

Ganjar also said that it should not be careless in planting. Lands with a high level of slope and trees should not be cut down.

This is because the tree planted by Perhutani previously served as a barrier to landslides and floods in the event of rain with a high intensity level.

"While we improve conditions, for example areas with high slopes must be properly detained. So the trees that have been cut down, the roots should not be removed because it is sufficient to withstand flooding until planting from Perhutani next," said Ganjar.

For information, the ranking of the Food Security Index (IKP) issued by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2021, Central Java is the second best province nationally below Bali with an IKP value of 83.72 or a very resilient category.
