5 Things You May Not Know About Chester Bennington
JAKARTA - Listening to Chester Bennington singing either on Linkin Park or the previous band, Grey Daze can feel like communicating with someone who knows you better than yourself.
It makes you feel as if you know him deeply and personally. You seem to hear the main essence of Chester; everything he's ever been through, everything he's been through.
His voice helps circulate a hidden voice. The sound that feels like a trusted person for your strongest and most essential feelings. When the needle sounds click, it's like you see a glimpse of his soul.
But, beyond the music, Chester can be weird, comedian, mediocre, cheerful - everything you don't hear in his songs well with Linkin Park, Dead by Sunrise, Stone Temple Pilots, and Grey Daze.
In honor of his best friend, Bennington's teammate at Gray Daze, Sean Dowdell, revealed five interesting things about the late rocker that most of his fanatical fans may not know.
Anything? Here are the details, compiled by VOI from Revolver magazine:
1. Like sports
He is a diligent sportsman. We will go to many basketball games and football games, and we will often play basketball. Unfortunately, Chester will often suffer injuries, so we have to limit our basketball adventures as his tour gets closer. He likes to surf. I believe at one point Kelly Slater, one of the world's best surfers, surfs with him and teaches him how to surf pretty well. He loves the ocean."
2. Food adventurers
He is one of the most exploratory meals I've ever met. We can go to a restaurant and he won't look at the menu, he just closes his eyes, points and says, "Give me!" Usually ends in strange things and he's going to say, "Of course, let's try." He loves adventure in terms of food, and in many ways. He likes to explore new things.
3. Reggae fans
He is a huge reggae fan. That's one of the reasons he used to have cymbal hair at Grey Daze. He loves Bob Marley.
4. Ambideksterity
He's left-handed but does a lot with his right hand - playing guitar is one of them, which always confuses me. It's a very difficult thing to do. How creative he is."
5. Likes to play games
He's the biggest mess. We both lived in the same neighborhood in Arizona, just before he moved back to Los Angeles for the last time around 2009. At Christmas, I bought a large statue of Sasquatch and put it on his front yard for everyone to see how terrible he tastes. We love doing that kind of nonsense. The following year I got this nude chimpanzee statue, which stands there in a cowboy hat and beer - he puts it in my yard.
Chester ended his life tragically on July 20, 2017. He was buried nine days later on the South Coast of Botanic Garden in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
