DENPASAR - Several coastal areas in Bali have the potential to experience tidal flooding due to the super new moon phenomenon/new moon phase.

Coordinator for Data and Information at the Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BBMKG) Region III Denpasar, Bali, I Nyoman Gede Wiryajaya said that he explained that there was a super new moon phenomenon or a new moon phase which coincided with perigee or the closest distance to the earth from the moon.

"January 21 2023 has the potential to increase the maximum tide height. Based on monitoring of water level data and predictions of tides, coastal flooding (rob) has the potential to occur on several coasts of Bali on January 21 to 25 2023", said Wiryajaya, Thursday, 19 January.

Coastal beaches that have the potential for tidal flooding are Pulukan Beach, Pekutatan Beach, Balian Beach or Soka Beach, Pasut Beach, Kelanting Beach, Yeh Gangga Beach, Kedungu Beach, and Tanah Lot Beach.

Then, Batu Bolong Beach, Seminyak Beach, Kuta Beach, German Beach, Nusa Penida Beach, Balangan Beach, Padang-padang Beach, Nuggalan Beach, Pandawa Beach, Nusa Dua Beach, Serangan Beach.

Furthermore, Sanur Beach, Sindu Beach, Saba Beach, Masceti Beach, More Beach, and Kusamba Beach.

"The potential for coastal flooding (rob) differs from time to time, day and hour in each region. In general, it has an impact on the activities of communities around ports and coasts, such as loading and unloading activities at ports, activities in coastal settlements, as well as salt ponds and inland fishing activities. ", he said.
