Labor Asks PT KCN For Coal-Depositing Of Coal Marunda To Be Reopened, Heru Budi: The Requirements Must Be Fulfilled

JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono was urged to allow PT Karya Citra Nusantara (KCN) to resume operations, after the revocation of an environmental permit that had been running for 7 months.Responding to this, Heru admitted that the DKI Provincial Government did not really question if PT KCN, who was the perpetrator of coal dust pollution, Rusunawa Marunda, was back in operation. However, Heru emphasized that the bulk commodity loading and unloading company must complete the administrative sanctions previously given by the DKI Environmental Agency before finally the permit was revoked because the sanctions were not implemented."We are also happy, really, if the KCN can run again. However, the requirements must be met," Heru said when met in Ragunan, South Jakarta, Friday, January 13.When KCN was proven to be the pollinator of coal dust in Marunda, the DKI Provincial Government imposed administrative sanctions. The port management company was ordered to improve its environmental management and not pollute the environment through 32 follow-up items. After 90 days of imposing administrative sanctions, it turns out that the residents of Marunda are still feeling coal dust pollution. Of the 32 points of sanctions imposed by the DKI Provincial Government, it turns out that only 4 points of sanctions have been followed up by PT KCN.This condition, said Heru, explained that PT KCN must improve its environmental activities before it can finally operate again."If that can be fulfilled, hopefully it can work. We, the DKI Regional Government, are not taking sides anywhere. There are complaints from residents, then it is suspected that there is environmental pollution, so it will be repaired," explained Heru.Yesterday, a number of workers held a demonstration in front of the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta. They demanded Heru withdraw the closure of PT KCN.Coordinator of port service users (penjaspel) Marunda, Munif said, as many as 2,500 workers have been unemployed since the closure of PT KCN. Meanwhile, other loading and unloading companies are still operating."We ask PT KCN to operate again. Seven months of KCN there are no activities, but the surrounding ports can carry out activities," Munif said when met in front of DKI City Hall, Thursday, January 12.What surprised the workers was why the DKI Provincial Government only closed PT KCN over the problem of coal dust pollution in Marunda. Meanwhile, after PT KCN's permit was revoked, it turned out that coal ash was still polluting residential areas."It turns out that the pollution still exists even though KCN is closed. The question is that we are making a living, why is only KCN being questioned. So, we ask (Heru) to re-evaluate the decision letter for the revocation of KCN," said Munif.
