Gareth Bale Retired Early From Football, This Is A Row Of Trophy Collection

YOGYAKARTA Gareth Bale decided to retire from football. The reason is, Bale still has the remainder of his contract with the Los Angeles FC until next summer.

The former Totenham Hotspur and Real Madrid star decided to hang up his boots at the age of 33. The decision was taken just about a month after Wales was eliminated in the 2022 World Cup group phase.

"After careful and wise consideration, I announce my immediate resignation from the club and international football," Bale wrote on Instagram, quoted Saturday, January 14, 2023.

During his 17 career as a footballer, Gareth Bale was known as a player who always appeared in big moments, scoring goals and helping the team he played in the finals. In fact, in his last match with Los Angeles FC club Bale became a savior. He scored in the final minutes of extra time to take the game to the penalty shootout.

Although he has not played much at the Los Angeles FC this season, Bale still has a big contribution to his club to become the 2022 MLS champion. This also adds to his trophy collection before deciding to retire.

With the Wales national team, Bale managed to become the top scorer for his country with 41 goals in 111 games. However, his biggest achievement as captain, Bale led the Wales national team to return to the World Cup in 2022, having waited 64 years.

At least, there are four clubs Bale has played for his 17-year career. The Wales football star has retired for 554 appearances, scored 186 goals, and 139 assists at club and national team levels in various competitions.

The winner of the five Champions League titles actually still has a working bond with LAFC for the next six months. However, Bale feels this is the right time to end his career.

"So I continued to the next stages of my life. Time for change and transition, opportunities for new adventures," Bale wrote in a statement.

Despite retiring relatively quickly at the age of 33, Bale has already achieved flashy achievements as well as a series of trophies that he won while defending various clubs.

His best record was when he defended Real Madrid in Spain. Together with Los Blancos, Bale won the Champions League five times, and scored three goals in three finals in 2014, 2017, and 2018.
