Ubisoft Cancels The Development Of 3 Unannounced Games And Delays AgainUNt & Layoffs
JAKARTA - Ubisoft is rumored to have canceled three games whose title has not yet been announced and has postponed the development of pirate adventures.
Based on a report shared by Ubisoft on Wednesday, January 11, the company said it was "chasing major challenges as the industry continues to shift to large brands and long-lasting titles rather than those that can reach players around the world, across platforms and business models".
Ubisoft said it had spent the last four years trying to customize its biggest brand of the popular franchise Assassin'sten, Far Cry, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and The Division to this convergent trend.
"However, the game from this investment phase has not yet been released, while our latest launch has not gone as well as expected," said Ubisoft.
The company said software sales during the main holiday season were slower than expected, with Mario +tendas:men's of Hope and Just Dance 2023 among the games failing to meet expectations.
"It exacerbated this effect, in the context of deteriorating macroeconomic conditions, the trend during the holiday season, especially the last weeks of December and early January, has been clearly seen and surprisingly slower than expected," he explained.
After a series of announced delays, the scheduled Tokyo and Australia will be released this March, now arriving "earlier" in the next Ubisoft fiscal year (2023-24), which runs from April to March 2024.
The company claims the decision for this additional time has paid off with an impressive improvement in its quality. This has been confirmed by recent gaming tests, and expects "players to be positively shocked by its evolution".
