Officially PLTM Capacity 2x4.85 MW, Bauran EBT In North Sumatra Capai 43.47 Percent

JAKARTA - PLN North Sumatra Distribution Main Unit (UID Sumut) and PT Karo Bumi Energi signed a commercial operation Date (COD) to start absorbing electricity from the Kandibata I Minihydro Power Plant (PLTM) in Karo Regency, North Sumatra.

General Manager of PLN UID North Sumatra, Tonny totaling, said that the operation of water-based power plants with a capacity of 2x4.85 Mega Watt (MW) is increasing the electricity supply based on environmentally friendly energy.

Currently, the New Renewable Energy (EBT) mix in North Sumatra has reached 43.47 percent.

"PLTM Kandibata I is the 20th EBT generator operating in North Sumatra. With the operation of the Kandibata I PLTM, it can increase the reliability of electricity supply, especially in Karo Regency and its surroundings," said Tonny in an official statement, Thursday, January 12.

Tonny said that the operation of the Kandibata I PLTM could improve the quality of voltage so that services to the community were also better. In addition, the presence of the Kandibata I PLTM also has the potential to be able to streamline the Basic Provision Fee (BPP) in North Sumatra to reach Rp11 billion per year.

Not only the Kandibata I PLTM, added Tonny, PLN UID North Sumatra will also sign an official report for 6 PLTMs and Biomass Power Plants (PLTBm).

The signing of these six environmentally friendly plants will be carried out in the first half of 2023 with a total power capacity of 43.7 MW.

"This is in order to increase the reliability of electricity supply in North Sumatra, but must also be accompanied by environmental sustainability around the PLTM so that it can be maintained so that the surrounding community can benefit," said Tonny.

President Director of PT Karo Bumi Energi, Lai Tat Chai expressed his gratitude for the cooperation between PLN and his party during the construction of PLTM Kandibata I.

"We continue to be committed to increasing the use of Minihidro's power plants in order to make an environmentally friendly green energy program a success," Lai said.
