Kusir Di Kawasan Monas Ready Dibina, Bukan Di Dibinya

JAKARTA - The ban on traditional horse transportation operations (delman) in the National Monument (Monas) area, Central Jakarta, is again being discussed in early 2023. Even the wagon owners complained about the ban by the Central Jakarta City Government (Pemkot).

"We, the coachmen at Monas, are ready to be fostered by the Central Jakarta City Government but are not ready to destroy it," said the coordinator of the Monas area's wagon coach, Nanang, to reporters.

Nanang said that he and dozens of other coachmen had long made a living for families in the Monas area. If there is a problem with horse droppings that are said to disturb the public or road users, he is ready to find a solution.

"We are ready to be given a solution if the problem of horse droppings," he said.

Nanang said there were 45 coachmen who were disappointed and objected to the unilateral decision without inviting the wagon coachmen.

Responding to the problem, the Deputy Mayor of Central Jakarta, Iqbal Akbarudin admitted that his party had not conducted any socialization regarding the prohibition on the wagon coachmen who were at Monas.

"In the near future, we will socialize it to the coachmen," said Deputy Mayor Iqbal when confirmed, Monday, December 9.

The City Government of Central Jakarta last conducted socialization of the ban on wagons in 2015. In that year, the Central Jakarta City Government conducted a horse health check.

"The health check is a form of ensuring that the horse is healthy. If the animal is healthy, the human being is also safe and comfortable," he said.

Horse droppings of wagons are said to often appear on the highway, so it is feared that it will disturb the health of other residents. In fact, the Central Jakarta City Government has formed a task force to prohibit wagons in the Monas area through the Mayor's Circular (SE) Number 36 of 2016 which contains a ban on the operation of wagons in the Monas area.
