GUNUNGKIDUL - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, repaired evacuation routes and installed dozens of signs in the event of a tsunami in Kemadang Village / Village.Head of BPBD Gunungkidul Purwono said, Kemadang Village/Kelurahan was one of the areas that was included in the Tsunami Ready by The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO)."To follow up on Kemadang as a Tsunami Ready, we immediately checked the evacuation route in the event of a tsunami," Purwono said in Gunungkidul, quoted from Antara, Thursday, January 5.He said there were three locations that were examined including Baron Beach, Kukup Beach, and Along."In the future, the evacuation route so far at Baron Beach to the east will be repaired. We propose a new route to the west," he said.Purwono said the Gunungkidul BPBD immediately proposed the construction of an evacuation route to the east of Kukup Beach. The plan is that the Beach Along the volleyball statue will be used for temporary evacuation. In addition, the Gunungkidul BPBD will install 80 evacuation boards on the coast of Gunungkidul this year."We are still mapping the installation of evacuation routes, so that if a tsunami occurs or high waves can guide residents," said Purwono.A member of the FPRB Kalurahan Kemadang Surisdiyanto said that Kalurahan Kemadang was confirmed as a Tsunami Ready by IOC-UNESCO at Purus Beach, Padang City, West Sumatra, on December 26, 2022.Currently, nine villages in Indonesia have received Tsunami Ready recognition by UNESCO-IOC, namely Tanjung Benoa (Bali), Kuta Mandalika (NTB), Tambakrejo (East Java), Glagah (DIY), Kemadang (DIY), Pangandaran (Jabar), Panggarangan (Banten), Purus (Kota Padang), and Lolong Belanti (Kota Padang).Surisdiyanto said that this international recognition does not mean that it only gets the title, but behind it there is a big responsibility that awaits, namely how to create a tsunami alert society and tourists towards zero victims."We are trying to make improvements and provide socialization to the public about disasters in dealing with tsunamis. This is because Kemadang is in the southern coastal area," said Surisdiyanto.
