PLN Take 2 Million TonS OF FABA To Build Infrastructure During 2022

PT PLN (Persero) reports that throughout 2022 it has processed more than 2 million remaining coal burning ash or Fly Ash Bottom Ash (FABA) Steam Power Plant (PLTU) into raw materials for infrastructure that can be used by the community.

President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo said that the utilization of FABA is clear evidence from PLN to process the remaining from generating operations not only into waste but instead become a catalyst for driving the economy of the community around the PLTU. PLN processes FABA as the raw material for road construction, bridges, paving for flood prevention, and tetrapod for prevention of abrasion.

"FABA has succeeded in creating a new populist-based economy. Become a new business. Become a new tourist area. Tourists come. The economy moves. We also involve women as tourism managers," said Darmawan in an official statement, Saturday, December 31.

The use of FABA has continued to increase every year since 2019. As of November 2022, PLN Group has utilized FABA as much as 2.06 million tons, up 134.6 percent from the cumulative end of 2021 (878 thousand tons). This total FABA was obtained from 47 PLTUs from all over Indonesia.

Of this number, 19.36 kilometers (km) of concrete roads have been built, 314,308 for land stabilization, 157 units for FABA houses, 1,860,941 pieces of Paving Batako, 300 Small and Medium Micro Enterprises (MSMEs) and 600 pieces of Tetrapod.

"Now all PLN plants are the epicenter of environmental, social and community welfare improvement. So that the presence of PLN plants can not only be a source of electricity but also be able to move the wheels of the economy in the community," said Darmawan.

FABA can be widely utilized by the community, MSMEs and agencies following FABA has been categorized as waste that does not contain hazardous and toxic materials (B3). PLN opens opportunities for people who want to take advantage of FABA into high-purpose products, including mixing in the construction and infrastructure industries.

PLN is open to people who want to participate in using this FABA. FABA itself is not B3 waste so it can be processed and provides many benefits," he concluded.

This effort made by PLN is the company's commitment to the principles of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) in creating sustainable economic development.
