Through an upload on the band @megadeth's official Instagram, the band, which has visited Indonesia four times, sent condolences for the death of the real man Edson Arantes do Nascimento.
Pele died at the age of 82 at the Albert Einstein Hospital, Sao Paulo, Thursday local time or Friday morning WIB.
Albert Einstein Hospital said Pele died at 3:27 p.m. local time due to a number of organ failures due to the development of colon cancer and several previous medical conditions.
"We are deeply saddened to hear the death of the ruling Brazilian football king. Really one of the best at playing beautiful games. Our thoughts and condolences to his family, friends and everyone who admired him. Rest in peace, Pele," wrote Megadeth.
For the US community, including Dave Mustaine (vocals, guitar) Pele is not a foreigner. The legend had a career in the North American Soccer League (NASL) while joining New York Cosmos in 1975-1977.
During that time, Pele played 64 times with 37 goals. He also managed to help his team win North American Soccer League, Soccer Bowl (1977) and North American Soccer League, Atlantic Conference Championship: (1977).
NASL is the top-level major professional football league in the US and Canada which was active from 1968 to 1984. This is the first successful football league on a national scale in the US. The finals in the league are called Soccer Bowl from 1975 to 1983 and Soccer Bowl Series in its last year, 1984.
The league was led by Commissioner Phil Woosnam from 1969 to 1983. NASL laid the groundwork for football (or association football) in the United States which helped lead the host country of the 1994 FIFA World Cup and the establishment of Major League Soccer (MLS) in 1996.
