Encourage The Domestic Bauxite Processing And Purification Industry, Indonesia Stops Exporting Ore Bauxite Starting June 2023

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo announced that Indonesia will stop exports of bauxite ore starting June 2023 to encourage the domestic processing industry.

"Starting June 2023, the government will impose a ban on the export of bauxite ore and encourage the domestic bauxite processing and refining industry," said President Joko Widodo, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 21.

President Jokowi conveyed this accompanied by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif.

"I repeat, starting June 2023 the government will impose a ban on the export of bauxite ore and encourage the domestic bauxite processing and refining industry," said the President.

According to President Jokowi, the government continues to be committed to realizing the sovereignty of natural resources and increasing added value in the country, especially for the opening of as many jobs as possible and increasing foreign exchange revenues and more equitable economic growth.

"Therefore, the government continues to strive to improve the domestic natural resource processing industry. Exports of raw materials will continue to be reduced, downstreaming of domestic natural resources-based industries will continue to be improved," added the President.

The President revealed that since January 1, 2020, the government has started a ban on the export of nickel ore.

"The result was that the export value of nickel was originally only Rp. 17 trillion or 1.1 also US dollars at the end of 2014, increasing to Rp. 326 trillion or 20.9 million US dollars in 2021 or an increase of 19 times," said the President.

"The government will continue to consistently carry out downstreaming in the country so that added value is enjoyed domestically for the progress and welfare of the people," said the President.
