Taekwondo Championships Are Expected To Be A Place To Improve Athlete's Quality For The Good Of The National Team

JAKARTA - The 2022 Taekwondo National Championship (Kejurnas) took place successfully. The match, which started from December 15 to December 18, went fairly and objectively.

Chairman of the Executive Board of Taekwondo Indonesia (PBTI) Thamrin Marzuki said the 2022 Taekwondo National Championship should be a valuable experience for athletes. This event is also expected to improve the quality of athletes in various regions.

The goal is to contribute when representing the national team (timnas) in various international events. He also added that the 2022 Taekwondo National Championships must be evaluated comprehensively so that the next implementation can run better. "I ask that the provincial government, in the future, be more selective in identifying, screening and selecting athletes," Thamrin said, as reported by Antara, Monday, December 19.

"The more selective and quality the process of getting these athletes, the quality or weight of the quality of the match will also continue to increase and this is very constructive for the PBTI program in fostering and developing the potential of athletes in the future," he continued.

Thamrin emphasized that PBTI also remains focused on preparing the national team in the short term to face the XXXII/2023 SEA Games at the Phnom Penh, Cambodia and the XIX/2022 Asian Games which will be rolling next year in Hangzhou, China.

PBTI on the recommendation of the talent scouting team will again conduct national selection to ensure the best athletes who will be prepared in the two multi-events through a national training camp. in the 2022 Taekwondo National Championships, West Java Province became the overall champion after winning a total of 17 gold 12 silver, and 19 bronze. The second rank is DKI Jakarta with 13 gold, 13 silver, and 12 bronze. The third rank belongs to Central Java by winning 8 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze.

While the hosts Banten are in fourth place with 7 gold, 7 silver, and 20 bronze medals.

According to the Chairperson of the Implementing Committee who is also the Head of Public Relations of PBTI, Ruminta, the 2022 Taekwondo National Championship does display materials that are different from the previous edition, which only competed in the senior category. "For the 2022 National Championships, it is followed by senior, junior and cadet categories. The number of athletes who participated was quite a lot, namely 865 athletes from 32 provinces in Indonesia. The senior category is 284 athletes, the juniors are 322 athletes and cadets as many as 259 athletes," said Ruminta.

"The athletes who take part in this national championship are champions up to third in the Regional Championships which were held in the previous six places or regions. These three categories will continue to be competed in the next national championship, so there will be continuity in the development of athletes in the future," he continued.
