Often Occurs During The Rainy Season, Four Districts In North Garut Regency Rawan Puting Beliung
GARUT - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Garut Regency, West Java said that the northern area of the region is an area prone to tornadoes, so people must be aware of it to avoid the risk of the impact of the disaster.
"Yes, the northern area is prone to tornadoes, which must be of concern to the public, especially during the rainy season," said Head of Garut Regency BPBD Satria Budi as reported by Antara from Garut, Sunday, December 18.
He said the northern area of Garut Regency, which is prone to being hit by a tornado, including Kersamanah, Limbangan, Leuwigoong, and finally on Saturday, December 17, occurred in Malangbong District.
It was recorded that during 2022, he said, there had been four tornadoes that hit the north of Garut with the impact of damaging the roof of the house.
"During this year there have been four of you tornadoes, the impact of damaging the roof's house," he said.
He submitted the latest report of a tornado that hit Malangbong District which damaged 10 houses and the shopping canopy section.
The local government, he said, had tackled houses affected by the tornado by providing tarpaulins to cover the roof during the repair process, and basic needs assistance.
"For the incident in Malangbong, there are 10 houses, and of course we from BPBD have made efforts to help those affected," he said.
He added that Garut Regency has a fairly high potential for natural disasters, not only tornadoes but also other disasters such as landslides, ground movement, and floods.
The local government, he said, had made various preparations, including being prepared by 24-hour officers to help people affected by hydrometeorological disasters.
"We continue to be aware of the threat of hydrometeorological disasters, and the BMKG report that this rainy season is predicted until February (2023), so we continue to be vigilant and on standby 24 hours," he said.
