There Is Law 18/2017, The Minister Of Manpower Ensures Improvement Of PMI Placement And Protection

EAST LOMBOK - Indonesian Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah stated that Law Number 18 of 2017 emphasizes that the government provides full protection and fulfills every right of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) from before to after work.

"Protection of PMI as mandated in Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, essentially emphasizes and provides a greater role to the government and reduces the role of the private sector in the placement and protection of PMI," said Ida reported by Antara in commemoration of the 2022 International Migrant Day in East Lombok Regency, NTB, Sunday 18 December.

Ida stated and appreciated PMI for its services for making large national foreign exchange donations to Indonesia which contributed to national development.

PMI also contributes to the economy of the country where PMI works, because employers can work well and freely in the workplace because some of their duties have been delegated to PMI.

Therefore, the government must continue to strive to improve PMI's placement and protection procedures properly, so that PMI can really be protected before working, during work and after work, and avoid cases or labor problems.

The provision of protection is to ensure the fulfillment and enforcement of human rights, protection of the PMI law, economy and social affairs and all of its families.

Ida continued in the law, clearly asking the government to provide protection for PMI from the village.

PMI and PMI retired children have the same rights, especially in obtaining proper education. It is fitting for families in the country and the surrounding community to help and guide them to pursue their goals," he said.

Because in reality, people who are recruited to become PMI are village communities, so village heads are required to know information about their citizens who go to work abroad and ensure that they depart procedurally.

This is one of the things that distinguishes between Law Number 18 of 2017 and the existing regulations.

Ida asked the village government not to ignore the many bad events that are currently rampant in PMI. He emphasized that villages are at the forefront of providing protection for PMIs from irresponsible people who seduce their citizens with the lure of money and so on.

"I hope that there will be no cases of village officials playing with P3MI or even becoming brokers. Villages as the frontline of protection before and after work, must be responsive in dealing with various PMI problems," said Ida.
