Public Needs To Know, Don't Law Perpetrators Of Sexual Harassment By Harassment Again
JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission X DPR Syaiful Huda emphasized the need to seek other forms of social sanctions for perpetrators of sexual harassment of students at a private university in Depok, West Java. Even though it needs to be given social sanctions, the perpetrators should not be judged until they are harassed again.
The reason is, cases of sexual harassment in an educational environment, such as the iceberg phenomenon. So for him, the issue of sexual harassment has become an emergency in educational institutions.
"Indeed, like the tip of the iceberg, yes. Not in high school, not on campus, the variants of the perpetrators are also very different. At school there are perpetrators (sexual harassment) by teachers, between students. On campuses between students, before lecturers, and so on. So, once again, in my eyes, there is a real emergency about the issue of sexual harassment. Therefore, we hope that everything that has been campaigned by the Ministry of Education and Culture can be effective," said Huda, Saturday, December 17, as reported by the official parliament website.
Last week, there were many on social media acts of bullying carried out by the public in the form of harassment against perpetrators of sexual harassment. Huda warned not to let the judgment be in the form of harassment again.
"You have to look for other forms of social sanctions whose dimensions deter and learn from the perpetrators. Do not let the form of witnesses be harassed too," said the PKB faction politician.
Huda added that indeed the punishment scheme for perpetrators of harassment in the educational environment has not been regulated with certainty. Therefore, he suggested that the campus party provide certainty regarding severe sanctions to the perpetrators, including the consideration of bringing the matter to the criminal realm.
"In the punishment scheme, it is still a bit loose, it is not definitive what to do, even though there is a clause if there is a criminal offense entry. Asked to be processed (criminal), when the victim feels that the level of harassment has fulfilled the criminal offense, yes. It is processed, if for example it is still harassment that does not meet the requirements of the criminal offense, there the social sanctions room must be made," he said.
At the end of his opinion, he asked that the sanctions be returned to the campus. Until it is necessary to formulate social sanctions in the form of being expelled from lecture activities on campus. Or then there are other sanctions against the perpetrators, I think it is our size because it is not definitive for the Permendikbud, so the campus is definitive, the spirit is deterrent," continued Huda.
