Nikola Corp Immediately Sell 75 Tres, Hydrogen Power Trucks To Plug Power Inc.
JAKARTA Electric truck maker Nikola Corp announced on Thursday December 15 that it will sell up to 75 hydrogen-powered trucks, Tre, over three years to fuel cell technology developer Plug Power Inc.
The electric vehicle maker (EV) wants to take advantage of the tax incentives provided by the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to reduce the cost of using EVs for commercial purposes.
Plug Power will install its liquid hydrogen tankers onto Nikola trucks, whose shipments will begin next year, to transport green hydrogen fuel throughout North America.
The company will also provide a disbursement system for Nikola's hydrogen center project in Buckeye, Arizona, which will initially produce 30 metric tons of gas per day, and scales up to 150 metric tons per day.
Nikola said that low hydrogen carbon from the facility would allow for further deployment of Tre fuel cell electric trucks.
Plug Power will also supply the green hydrogen of Nikola 125 metric tons per day, and the latter has the option to secure more volume and also to get hydrogen fuel from elsewhere in the United States.
Earlier this year, Nikola said that the incentives provided by IRA would help the company lower the cost of electric trucks and its hydrogen energy business.
Nikola has announced that it plans to build up to 60 hydrogen charging stations by 2026 and allow access to up to 300 metric tons of low-carbon hydrogen supply.
