JAYAPURA - Armed Criminal Group (KKB) reportedly attacked police patrols while heading to the blocking site in Tinderet Village, North Yapen District, Yapen Islands Regency, Papua. A civilian was killed in this incident.Yapen Islands Police Chief AKBP Herzoni Saragih explained that the incident that occurred last Tuesday began when members headed to the blocking location in Tindaret Village. But before arriving at the TKP, suddenly fired from a height.In addition to shooting, the KKB led by camera Marani unfurled wood behind the vehicle used to transport personnel."As a result of the blocking, the vehicle could not move forward or back down and when it was about to be cut off the sawper who was brought from Serui they were shot from a height," Saragih told Antara, Wednesday, December 14.AKBP Saragih admitted that when he was fired from a height, the members led by the Head of Intelligence and Security Unit AKP Frits B. Arera and the Head of Ops AKP Lintong Simanjuntak ordered all to step back by taking cover under the cliff.When deemed safe, it was discovered that a civilian who was cutting a tree that was stretched across the road was not there and when he returned to the TKP, victim Yeferson Sayuri was found dead with a gunshot wound.In addition to killing a civilian, KKB burned four vehicles belonging to the Yapen Islands Police which were used at that time."There was a gun battle for about an hour before personnel withdrew on foot to a location deemed safe," said AKBP Herzoni Saragih.When asked about the strength of the KKB Leadership of Marani, the Yapen Islands Police Chief stated that from the statements of members and video recordings there were about three or four pieces and Molotov cocktails."It is not known exactly how much power they have because when the ambush occurred there were about eight to 10 KKB members who were seen and some of them were holding weapons," Saragih explained.He asked residents not to cross the road for a while and if they wanted to go to the North Yapen District, they were advised by sea."For the time being, we recommend that people not cross the road to avoid unwanted things from happening," hoped AKBP Saragih.
