Firli Bahuri In Hakordia 2022: Corruptors Are Not Fear Of Prison But Fear Of Poverty

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri said corruptors are not afraid of criminal penalties. They are actually afraid when they are poor. This was conveyed by Firli during the commemoration of World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) 2022. Based on the study made, it turns out that the criminal sentence of corruptors does not deter them."The study shows that the perpetrators of corruption are not afraid of the threat of corporal punishment, they are not afraid of imprisonment but are afraid of being impoverished," said Firli at the Bidakara Hotel, South Jakarta, Friday, December 9.This reason makes the KPK try to apply fines and replacements. They want to have a deterrent effect on corruptors."The approach that the KPK has made in addition to corporal punishment is also applied to fines and replacement money," said Firli."This includes the application of money laundering," he continued.Of all these efforts, the KPK could then exceed the target of asset recovery from IDR 141.7 billion to IDR 494 billion."This means that our achievement is more than 294 percent of the target mandated by the law regarding the national medium-term development plan," he said.Firli said eradicating corruption was not an easy matter. Thus, he invites all parties to apply good and clean government principles."We are really concerned about what happened to the perpetrators of corruption. In fact, it does not need to happen if we carry out the principles of good government," he concluded.
