Help Success The 2024 General Election, Google Will FIGHT Misinformation On The Internet

JAKARTA - Ahead of the 2024 General Election, Google will assist Indonesia in creating elections that are safe and fair by understanding how misinformation spreads online and how the information ecosystem, which consists of technology platforms, researchers, experts, and academics, can unite to fight it.

In collaboration with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Puskakom, Google will provide funding for its multi-year efforts against the Internet Lab Safer initiative, to evaluate how misinformation is spreading in digital media in Indonesia and across Southeast Asia.

This initiative will be led by CSIS in finding ways to detect and prevent disinformation and misinformation before going viral. This initiative will also serve as a multi-sector forum for exchanging ideas about fake and harmful content.

While Google will provide funding for these multi-year efforts, CSIS and Puskakom will provide policy recommendations that will be followed up, which will also open up more ways of discussion and communication between the private sector and the public.

"By expanding the scope of knowledge in Southeast Asia, this will help all ecosystem players, from businesses to policymakers, to better understand their problems and challenges," said Managing Director of Google Indonesia Randy Jusuf in his remarks at Google for Indonesia (G4ID) 2023 on Wednesday, December 7.

Through a report issued twice a year, it will provide valuable insight and can be followed up to help reduce the flow of low-quality and misleading information.

"By working with industry players across the region, Safer Internet Lab hopes to educate the public through its research. This initiative has been designed to propose a solution that can be implemented and for the long-term interests of democracy, which allows all citizens to participate and make decisions based on facts," concluded Randy.
