Google And The Transportation Agency Present Green Light, AI Technology To Overcome Congestion In Jakarta
JAKARTA - Google announced its cooperation with the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service (Dishub) in a project called Green Light.
This project aims to optimize the function of traffic lights to reduce congestion, fuel consumption, and vehicle emissions.
"We are happy and proud to be able to bring this technology in Jakarta. Jakarta is the first region in Southeast Asia to adopt this pilot," said Galuh Rohmah Sinergic Partner Development, Google in Indonesia at the Google for Indonesia (G4ID) 2023 event on Wednesday, December 7.
Galuh stated that Google and the Transportation Agency had been in discussions since September - October 2022. Then, both parties signed the MoU in November.
The way Green Light implementation works is in several stages. Among them are:
Stage 1 Analysis: At this stage Google will analyze anonymous location data from the navigation system.
Phase 2 Identification: Google will calculate the metric of the flow of crossing traffic. For example, Galuh explained: "So after data from traffic lights at intersection A, red lights can be slowed down by a second, because at this hour it's as good as seconds."
Stage 3 Recommendation: Google provides recommendations that will then track changes along with the city.
"In India, this project has helped cities optimize traffic light time settings better, reducing waiting times at intersections, road congestion, and carbon emissions. By 2022, particularly in Bangalore, we have seen preliminary results of reduced congestion by 20%," he said.
